Seven blasts in Mumbai's local trains. Matunga, Bandra, Khar, Jogeshwari, Borivli, Bhayandar and between Khar-Bandra over the Khar subway. The blasts happened at peakhour when most of Mumbai's working population returns home using the local trains. Reports vary - 35 to 50 people are dead, and countless injured. But to those of us who have seen the local trains, we know that the figures are much much higher.
There are injured and dead people lying on the tracks. No police in the picture, no fire brigades. Its the local people, the shopkeepers and the people wo live close to the house who are coming into help. Carrying bodies both alive and dead in bedhseets. Some tiny bundles, perhaps with limbs within, or maybe children.

Whom were you trying to target? The working class men who struggle for an inch of space in local trains? The working women who knit and cut vegetables in trains on their way home? Young, dreamy students discussing exams and love? The babies accompanying their mothers, smiling back at the women around them?
Darkness is fast falling. Its raining like it will not stop. Will the rains wash away the blood? Will tomorrow be a new day. Here's to lost lifes and broken dreams.

its so unfair for the people who are killed and such a horrible shock for their friends & folks. 1st the rains, then abu azmi, then shiv sena and now this. what more do people have to endure. when will they let mumbai people live in peace.
Tomorrow morning, people will wake up and catch the early morning train to work. Offices will open on time, flights will take off on schedule, shopkeepers will ply their trade, Mumbai will dust off its soiled clothes and walk with purpose once more.
My prayers and tears are with you.

I'm just so relieved to know you're fine.
Hey salma,
Well said, yup whome r they trying to kill? what can anybody get from killing innocuous innocent people? Mumbai will forget all this, as a scar and resume its humdrum. But what about those who have lost their dear ones? What will happen to those who can never travel by train again? Why is somebody getting killed without any mistake of theirs? Who can undrestand this.

@ everybody:
i'm super tired of telling my friends "i'm ok i'm ok". my family is ok. my friends are ok. but really, i'm not feeling good. i keep thinking about yesterday on and on, and i'm trying to block it out, by blogging about it, by walking, by sleeping, by reading, by mindless shopping, but its not just working. i feel terribly selfish saying I'm ok. I'm looking hard for some peace of mind.
Can't do much about it... But we CAN blog about it, if nothing else...
